As a newspaper writer, one assignment I had many years ago was to travel with the Department of Tourism to Guangzhou, China to cover a trade fair they joined to promote Philippine Tourism.
I understand they have a budget to join travel fairs, fly in outdated Bayanihan dancers and reporters to their junkets, and sometimes hire expensive Filipino architects to design the booths.

So what happens after they entice tourists to come over to the Philippines? They encounter lackluster resorts with ugly bathrooms, malls with no toilet paper, pickpockets and laptop stealers, unfriendly cab drivers, and the worst—hostaged tourist buses.
Why the hell would you come back??

Any business owner will tell you repeat customers are what keeps money coming in and the business growing.
Here's something I've been saying again and again—the airport is the first and last thing a tourist sees when visiting the Philippines.
We've had so many presidents used to the good life, dining at expensive restaurants, building luxury houses for themselves, and traveling all over the world—HOW COME NOBODY EVER BOTHERED TO FIX THE AIRPORT?

Especially the sitting President whose father's name is on the airport.
Isn't there a presidential sister with an Imeldific bone in her body—who must want some form of beauty for our country?
She who has the power to move things around as well as create new government positions around her show biz friends?
Can she use her influence to fix our airports instead of hawking substandard electric fans?

Let's get the numbers to let the President know we mean business.
Here's a letter sent to me by Anna Oposa:
"My dad and I sent this letter to Mr. Jose Angel Honrado, head of the Manila International Airport Authority, this morning. We ask MIAA to review the inefficient check-in procedures, and a financial report of the terminal fees, among others. I've also reposted this on my blog and tweeted it to travel bloggers to generate more buzz and put more pressure on the MIAA and other agencies concerned.
I wanted to send you a copy of the letter as well, just to let you know that private citizens are trying to do something about our (crappy) airports."
