Jeroen and I have been together since 1997—that's 13 wonderful years together.
Here's Jeroen and I before we got married, when I was still a size 2.
This was taken at Mike Torres' apartment back in the day.
Thirteen years later because of our busy schedules, we try to find time to go on a date, for dinner or a movie. And maybe once or twice a year we'll take a trip together, just the two of us.
Tonight I had a serious craving for Japanese and offered to pick him up in the office. Jeroen is always happy when I go to his office because I rarely ever do.
We were supposed to go to Sugi, Greenhills (Jeroen's favorite) but I started talking about steak and oysters in the car. Jeroen suggested we go to one of our favorite retro restaurants, Kimpura.
I hope Kimpura never closes. I've been eating there since I was a kid. I remember being scolded because I refused to eat mixed fried rice. My dad was annoyed because I would order plain when everyone else had fried. But later on, I learned to like it. Probably because it smells so damn good.
Here's what we ordered: two steaks, oysters and mixed fried rice.
Fried rice the first thing we had, and boy I was starving.
"I am so excited to eat this," I told Jeroen while the rice was being grilled in front of us. I could just smell the garlic, onions and butter being mixed around with egg, chopped shrimps, minced beef and pork. So good.
Here's my sirloin steak. Jeroen had ribeye.
Jeroen had a side order of gyoza.
What I like about Kimpura is the food is always consistent. It tastes the same as it did in the '70s, '80s, '90s, naughties and now. And yes I have lived that long, praise God.
Wanna take the boys here again. This is Cooking Mama live and in action.
Finally we had the fat toasted on the grill.
When I first met Jeroen he ate zero fat. Now he tells me to video the fat being grilled because it excites him.
Jeroen is officially Pinoy and this is why we've loved him all these years.
Kimpura is at Greenhills Shopping Center
