So my sister and I discovered that 2:20 pm is the best time to fly out of Singapore because there are absolutely no queues at the GST counters, check-in, and immigration. The airport is practically deserted.
The whole process was a breeze. I even got to eat last-minute chicken rice at the airport
while my sister opted for some (Maricel) laksa.
Oh and the restroom of the Singapore Airlines lounge is awesome, they even have a shower stall in there, just in case you're stuck due to volcanic ash.
How convenient!
No wonder Changi Airport has just won the Best Airport of 2010.
Singapore Airlines is also consistently on the list of the world's best airlines.
Today I'm on the left side of the plane, window seat, 16A, while my sister is at 16B.
The business class seat reclines 180 degrees! Your feet go under the seat in front of you.
It's three hour flight from Singapore to Manila.
Here are my traveling survival essentials:
Y'all know I'm scared of flying. So one hour before the flight I take 1/4 Rivotril (but I think this is no longer enough because I'm still scared at the slightest turbulence, so next time I'll try 1/2).
I begin with five mysteries of the Rosary (salamat Byron).
I'm praying for clear blue skies and no turbulence. Of course no turbulence hardly ever happens, so I'm really praying for safe landing without incident.
Fluffy pillows are nice. I borrow one from the empty seat, so I have two. But I wish I had three.
I need a blanket and slippers.
It's a Sunday, so I have to check On the Radar, Philippine Star.
Earplugs are a must. I found out that 16A is right next to the engine, so the soundbothers scares me.
I have to look at the Duty Free items, even if I don't buy. I just like looking at stuff.
People magazine is a must when I fly. Good thing my sister brought a copy. This saves me Php 399. Mahalia jackson!
I keep my eyes on the flight tracker because I'm really, really duwag on the plane. I cannot wait to land!
Take note that I don't eat on the plane, don't watch movies and don't need an iPod because I'm too frozen to move, except to go to the toilet multiple times when it's safe to get up.
A trip to Hong Kong may take six visits to the toiled; Singapore, ten visits. I often develop diarrhea on the plane because of fear, so a seat near the restroom is ideal.
I start calming down when the pilot's voice comes on the PA system saying we're about to descend.
I love seeing islands or land from my window. The best part is touchdown, when I'm finally on Philippine soil—never mind that it looks like drought. There's no place like home.
