Before we left for Singapore, Jeroen and I visited June at Cardinal Santos Hospital.
I had to get him out of Pasig General because it has no facilities and has the grumpiest hospital staff in the world. As my dad would say, "iderecho mo na lang sa funeraria."
June needed a CT scan. It was suggested that he have it at Delos Santos Hospital, but it was election day and I had no time. Was leaving for Singapore on Wednesday.
After voting, I took him to Cardinal Santos hospital, with the help of my cousin Bunny who works there.
What a relief. The people there are better looking and much, much kinder. I believe human kindness is a great contributor to a patient's wellness.
June had his heart and abdmoninal CT scans on Tuesday ago but it was only last night when I got a text from Bunny.
"Hi. Got a copy of the scan. will ask Dr. Joseph for interpretation but as I understand, pneumonia with pericardial effusion. PTB* vs. lymphoma. Will text you again kasi gabi na out ang result."
*Tuberculosis
I got this text while eating in a Japanese restaurant with my family. When I read the word "lymphoma" I was about to cry. That's like freaking cancer. I was scared for June and scared for me. Can I afford it?
I stared at the soft-shell crab and stuffed it in my mouth.
I showed Ana the text and explained the situation. I told her, "Ana, please eat the okra as a sacrifice for June?"
Ana: "Why?"
"Ayoko ng lymphoma. Please Ana."
In furnace, Ana took two bites.
I remembered something and texted Bunny back. "Please tell Dr. Joseph that June's cousin died last February of the same symptoms, at 2 years old in Samar. Dr. Guno of Medical City believes sickness was transferred from his cousin, so I don't think lymphoma."
Parang Grey's Anatomy.
Today I got this update from Bunny.
"Hi, just came from Joseph's clinic. Sabi niya lymphoma's out. PT's more of TB, pneumonia. Nagcoconcentrate siya now of getting rid of so much air/liquid in the stomach. PT is moderate to severe malnourished kaya mahabang gamutan."
Please continue to pray for him. They say God won't give you a cross you can't carry.
I'm just glad it's not lymphoma.
