The FEED bag has been around since 2007, started by Lauren Bush and Ellen Gustafson as a project to raise funds to feed children under the United Nations World Food Programme.

Since then, over 64,800,000 meals have been provided through more than 553,000 bags sold worldwide.

I got my first FEED 1 bag from Amazon in 1997. Besides its sturdy make, generous size and Margielic look (it is reversible to white), I liked that a portion of its sales go to a good cause.

My feed bag

In 2008, my friend Paz sent me the FEED 100 bag from Houston, in a form I liked better.
This one comes folded and compact. It can be used as an extra shopping or travel bag.

Thank you Paz!

Four years later, the FEED bags continue to exist and provide meals all over the world. It now comes in many other designs to benefit other causes, such as the FEED JAPAN tote. Each sale  of the FEED Japan bag will give $10 to the FEED Foundation’s FEED Japan Fund, as Japan continues to recover from the March 2011 tsunami.

The FEED 2 bag is a stylish, reversible cotton tote. One side is made from natural burlap, and the other from 100% organic cotton. Each FEED 2 bag sold will feed two children in school for an entire year through the United Nations World Food Programme.

And now, from September 30 to October 14, 2011, five styles of the FEED bag will be available at AVA, the Philippines’ first members-only shopping community. The styles that will be offered are “FEED 1”, “FEED 2”, “FEED Japan”, “FEED 100” and “FEED 10” bags.
