Hayden Kho is sizzling haute with his new fragrance collection simply called Hayden.

Two years ago Hayden was the subject of a sex scandal leveling Edison Chen, but after owning up to his mistakes, he reinvents himself as a businessman and budding fragrance creator.

Hayden says, “I've always loved fragrances and I’m very intrigued by its enigmatic effect on people. When I was still a medical student, I read a scientific study that links fragrances to emotions."

Whatcha lookin at?

01 Training in Paris

To find out more about that link, Hayden traveled to Paris to train under perfume experts and learn the art of fragrance creation.

While at it, he also trained in the marketing and creative development process.

08 Presenting the brief for fragrance line

“I want to create fragrances that really trigger pleasant emotions, relive happy memories, elicit fantasies, or take you back to a special place or an unforgettable moment,” he says.

HP Product Shot - Fragrance for Women

The special edition scent, and the flagship, captures Hayden’s personality—one that represents masculine elegance, intrigue, mystery and confidence.

The collection is reminiscent of an array of natural essences, ranging from spice musk, Bergamot, nutmeg, Mandarin, black leather, Orris and Sandalwood for male, to blushing berry, cherry blossoms, vanilla pod, charming orchid, green tea, pink pepper and luscious lily for women.

10 Training in Takasago

“All of them have a smooth finish and will last all day long,” assures Hayden.
“Hayden” comes in 50, 100 and 150 ml. bottles and is available in major stores nationwide.

While Wee Nam Kee has moved its opening date to November 15th, look what I walked into this afternoon at Greenbelt 1.

Bonchon

Well, I am simply shocked because at least three relatives of mine wanted to bring BonChon chicken here without success and here it is now.
The franchise comes from New York where BonChon originated. The 28-year-old businessman who got the franchise had to get his hands dirty in the BonChon kitchen in New York during 1 1/2 months of training.

Bonchon chicken

BonChon will open two stores this year—at Greenbelt 1 and Ayala Triangle, which is also the site of Wee Nam Kee.
Target date is mid November, most definitely before November 17, 2010.
Take a look at the store design for Greenbelt 1:

Bonchon chicken

BonChon wings are a must whenever I'm in Singapore, where it's located at the Basement 4 of Ion Orchard.
The wings are moist and crispy, basted with a garlic/soy sauce.
Manila's menu, however, will offer more items than the Singapore franchise. For example, it will serve the breast part as well as rice. Check out the menu.

Bonchon chicken is still crispy even when it aint

As a chicken lover, I can tell you now, it's really one of the best things you'll ever taste. I'm already scared of the lines.
But with Forever 21, Muji, Wee Nam Kee and BonChon opening in Manila in the same year, not only are we getting spoiled, we are kind of getting used to lining up.

When Jerome Allen told me recently he was leaving for Tokyo, I thought he going on holidays.
He didn't mention he was joining a major fashion design contest.
And now Filipino fashion designer Jerome Allen Lorico has won the grand prize at the 48th Japan Fashion Design Contest held last 16 October 2010 at the Meguro Gajoen Hotel in Tokyo.
Lorico’s win marks the first time a foreigner has ever won the prestigious competition.

Jerome Allen Lorico

Lorico won the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology Award (Grand Prize) and two special corporate awards from the Japan Cotton Industry Association and Onward (seriously one of the biggest apparel companies in Japan).
Take note that I attempted to join this contest while studying at Parsons in 1992 and didn't even make it to the first screening.
Jerome is really talented. I met him in 2006 through Sara Morales, a young designer I spotted toting a bag by Lorico that could fit her.

Do I want this bag?

Jerome also styled a stunning set of Barbies for Ballet Philippines which should be a collectors item by now.

Screen shot 2010-10-23 at 12.10.46 PM

Lorico was among the 50 finalists chosen from a field of around 2,500 entries worldwide after a rigorous and stringent screening process. Lorico was awarded a ¥1 million cash prize along with a trophy, certificates, and commemorative gifts. Lorico was joined by two other finalists from the Philippines, Nicole Michael P. Mori and Marian V. Andrada.
Lorico’s all-black entry, titled “Ink and Water”, utilized a unique textile he helped conceptualize which was made from conventional and Philippine fabrics such as cotton and piña. His entry took inspiration from the theme of this year’s contest, “Steer for the Future 2020 Autumn/Winter”.

lorico-293x300

Organized by the Dressmaker Fashion Educational Promotion Committee and Sugino Gakuen (Sugino Fashion College), the contest’s board of judges for this year was headed by noted Japanese fashion maven Hanae Mori, SOMARTA fashion designer Tamae Hirokawa, Boutique-sha CEO Akira Naito, Senken h Chief Editor Kosuke Nagamatsu, and INFAS Publication, WWD Japan Chief Editor Kazuyuki Yamamuro.
The Japan Fashion Contest has a 48-year history and is highly respected in Japan. It has also been known as a gateway to the fashion industry. Previous Philippine entries to contest have also fared well with a finalist winning a special incentive award in 2007 and three finalists in 2009 with one winning an award in the fashion design category and another in the sketch category.

If you're a fashion student at Parsons, you learn about Fortuny, Poiret, Schiaparelli, Claire McArdell, and Normal Norell. In the Philippines, it's all about Ramon Valera.

Ramon Valera photo1

Named the first National Artist in Fashion Design in 2006, Valera was popular from the 1930s to '60s for dressing Manila's elite, brides, celebrities, and First Ladies in elegant gowns and ternos.
He is credited for innovating the terno, making it one piece and doing away with the tapis and panuelo. (Wiki)

I Am Love

Wow. Jeroen and I just finished watching this movie I rented on iTunes.
If you love fashion, music, home, food, and gossip, everything is in "I Am Love" and all done in good taste—except for the kissing scenes (eeww) !
My cousin Chelo would love this movie. Tilda Swinton plays a Russian national who marries into a wealthy Italian family in the fashion industry.

I am Love

"When I moved to Milan, I learned to become Italian," she said,
She is the perfect wife and mother until she meets her son Edo's business partner, Antonio, who plans to open a restaurant with her favorite son.

I am Love

She falls in love with the cook and his cooking and escapes her perfect, chica lifestyle in his mountain hideaway.
Unfortunately her decision to chop her hair and share a soup recipe ends in tragedy.
If you love fashion, music, home, food, and gossip, try not to miss it.

3

I'm so glad Jeroen watched the latter half with me as I love discussing the movie while it unfolds.
"Is it a girly girl movie?" Jeroen asked.
"Nope. It's a womany movie," I said.
In subtitles too. Chelo would love it.

After the movie I told Jeroen, "I would never leave you for the cook."
"Me too," Jeroen said. "But would you leave me for the gardener?"
"Not even."

About The Film
I Am Love tells the story of the wealthy Recchi family, whose lives are undergoing sweeping changes. Eduardo Sr., the family patriarch, has decided to name a successor to the reins of his massive industrial company, and in so doing, surprises everyone by splitting power between his son Tancredi and grandson Edo. However, Edo dreams of opening a restaurant with his friend Antonio, a talented chef. At the heart of Tancredi’s family is his wife, Emma (Tilda Swinton), a Russian immigrant who has adopted the culture of Milan. An adoring and attentive mother, Emma’s existence is shocked to the core when she falls deeply in love with Antonio and pursues a passionate love affair that will change his family forever.

Your zit's best friends

Just when I was preparing for a photo shoot, I broke out in tons of zits, most likely due to sleeping very late at night and using cream foundation by day.
As you know I receive tons of beauty products to review, so I tried everything I had on my dressing table and narrowed down the best acne products to these:

1) Mario Badescu Drying Lotion — If your pimple refuses to go away, take this miracle formula, do NOT shake well, in fact do NOT shake at all.
Dip one end of your cotton bud to the pink sediment on the bottom of the bottle and apply to stubborn zits, until it oozes out and dries out naturally.
Yes it will sting and no you won't have to force your zit to come out as it will come out of hiding by itself.
This product seriously deserves an Academy Award.

Mario_Badescu_DRYING_LOTION_-_29ml

2) Mario Badescu Buffering Lotion — So you're in a habit of popping zits because you can't help it. If you're like me, you'll need this buffering lotion. Shake well, use a cotton pad and apply to zits you've just popped in order to lessen the damage.
If popping zits makes you feel guilty, this will lessen the guilt by 50% as it should help clean and heal the mess you've created.

Picture-374-1

3) Murad Acne Treatment Concealers — Because zits are a pain to look at. Use this great cover up with Salycilic Acid to cover and heal. Comes in three shades only (they should make more). I use medium because the light shade is really for Caucasians. This will help tide you over zitty days while waiting for scars to heal and fade.

I don't enjoy fashion shows anymore and I don't like trekking to the SMX area—unless it's a special event like Al Gore or Manila FAME. But last night I hauled ass to Fashion Weak featuring Kate Torralba for Paper Dolls and Rajo Laurel for Wharton because Kate and Rajo are good friends of mine.
Six of us friends met up and carpooled at 8:30 PM to make it to the 9 PM show. Carpooling is fun and lessens carbon footprints, pollution and traffic. Imagine if we didn't carpool, we would be coming in five different vehicles.
When we got there, a massive line was formed outside Hall 2 of SMX.

When you're hanging with Magalonas, you get used to them being filmed, photographed and stopped by various strangers and fans, which they always accommodate, and we don't mind at all.
Before we entered, Clara was filmed briefly in the van.

Clara's shoot

Inside, Pia was interviewed for TV. As her friends, we were waiting patiently when two security guards came out of nowhere and started pushing the people to the side. I thought at first they were trying to fix the queue, and then I saw a group of celebrities coming through. They are actually friends of mine.
Confused, I asked the female guard who they were shoving people for.
She said, "My dadaan na naka wheelchair." (Someone on a wheelchair is passing through.)
Me: "Sino?" (Who?)
She said: "Mr. Sy."
Well then, that certainly deserves the parting of the Red Sea, since Mr. Sy owns the whole darn complex. We moved. But no wheelchair passed by, only our celebrity friends.

That made me think because previously at the Justin Timberlake concert at Mall of Asia, this same celebrity had security shove people (who had been waiting since 7 PM) so that he could go to the front of the stage at 9 PM. He was promptly booed.
The celebrity is not even a bad person, but I think he should know that he doesn't look so cool when he makes use of guards that shove people around. I don't even think he needs security. I know lots of people with bodyguards but no one has ever shoved others to think the emperor is coming.

P.S. Bodyguards are so Ricky Reyes and shoving people is the new wang wang.
That said, meet some of my favorite fashionistas:

One of the nice things about working in media is being friends with other writers/reporters who are always first to know what's out there. One such friend is Dinna Vasquez, section editor of the Manila Standard.
Whenever I see her at press events, I want to sit next to her.
Most recently I saw her at a media dinner at Bistecca hosted by HP.
There, two tables of writers shared about ten orders of truffle fries and plates and plates of steak until we could no longer walk.

Truffle fries

God, why am I looking at these now??

Bistecca, medium rare

After our meal, Dinna takes out this banig of pills I've never seen before.

Lipout

"What is it?" I ask her.
"Lipout," Dinna whispers and explains that it's kind of like Xenical, minus the flatulence and runs to the toilet.
"Really? How does it work?"
Dinna says you take two pills with a full glass of water, especially after you have eaten something really sinful and fatty.
Lipout's non-soluble fibre coats the fat and forms a fat-fibre complex that becomes too large to be absorbed by the body.
Unabsorbed fats are then eliminated in the stool.

modeofaction

"And then what?"
Dinna is too proper and says, "Basta. You'll see."
She didn't want to give details, but became really interested. I even took this picture so I can buy it in the drug store, just in case.

Lipout

The following day, I woke up normally and felt an urge to deposit where no man has withdrawn before.
I am not as proper as Dinna so I'll say it here: I eliminated the most perfect looking turds I have seen in my life! I'm so sorry!!
After this I tried to buy the product at Mercury and Watsons but could not find them.
How lucky I am that a box was sent to the house today! I need to lose 10 lbs. so I hope this helps!!

Lipout is priced at PHP 1,440/box or PHP 24/piece and available at leading Mercury Drug stores nationwide.

PNoy speechwriter in hot water over Twitter posts
By Willard Cheng, ABS-CBN News

HANOI, Vietnam (UPDATE) - A Palace speechwriter has been told to be more careful of what she posts on the Internet after some of her status updates in the social networking site Twitter stirred controversy.
“We warned her to be more careful with her tweets,” Presidential Communications Development and Strategic Planning Office Secretary Ricky Carandang said of Mai Mislang, a speechwriter of President Aquino.
“We’ve told our people not just Mai but our people in our office, whether they like it or not, they are government employees and that they should be a little bit more circumspect,” he added.

Twitter

Mislang reportedly tweeted, “The wine sucks” after the state banquet hosted by Vietnam President Nguyen Minh Triet in honor of President Aquino Tuesday during a state visit.
She also tweeted: “Sorry pero walang pogi dito #vietnam.” (Sorry, there are no handsome men here.)
She also posted: “Crossing the speedy motorcycle laden streets of Hanoi is one of the easiest ways to die.”
But the Palace was quick to downplay the incident, saying they have dealt with the issue, and that Mislang had already deleted her tweets on her own.
Carandang also came to Mislang's defense.
“She has been one of the hardest working people in our office. She’s trusted by the President and this is just a minor issue. So I don’t think it’s going to become anything more. As far as we are concerned, tapos na ‘yun. Nawala na ‘yun. She’s being more careful now,” he said.
Carandang said the President has been informed about the incident. “The President knows about it and he knows I have taken the appropriate action.”
The communications secretary said Mislang has been apologetic but added, no public apology is forthcoming. “Absolutely, she was [apologetic],” Carandang said.
“There was no offense meant to anybody. That was something that was spontaneous. We talked about it and we are being more careful now about tweeting.”
Undersecretary Manolo Quezon III later tweeted Mislang's apology, which she originally posted on her Facebook account.
"I apologize for my comments. If I offended anybody, please know that was never the intention. I feel extremely blessed to be in a beautiful country blessed with warm hospitable people," Mislang said, according to Quezon.
Meanwhile, the Twitter account does not appear anymore on the social networking site. There has been no explanation on whether the account has been renamed or deleted.
