And back to Al.
Because my friends and I got our tickets from separate benefactors, we had separate seats.
There I was in a sea of corporate and gurangler social Olympics, jejeje.

The outgoing President arrived and there was silence...Ok, maybe five people applauded.
Some people stood up to have a look, as my cousin Candy did.
"Candy, don't stand. You won't see naman eh."
GMA buzzed by really quickly wearing some ikat thingy.

Unfortunately I don't have photos of the opening act—a song and dance number by teenagers singing eco-friendly songs such as "Heal The World." WTF? As Charice would say, "I can't bilibit!"
Good thing my friends were nowhere in my vicinity, otherwise, mayhem!
Following an opening speech by SM's Mr. Hans Sy, Al Gore finally came out.

Behind him, probably eight big LCD screens with a kind of Power Point presentation—none of the amazing graphics and hydraulics seen on "An Inconvenient Truth". In short, medyo low-tech.

Compare to his presentation to a US audience in 2006.

Look how much he aged in just four years. Even so, I think the matronas that night wouldn't mind.

Honestly you didn't miss much. The DVD is still better and has greater impact, even with Al Gore's updates on more recent events including Ondoy.
It ended with a lackluster 30-minute interview conducted by Cheche Lazaro, where she shocked people by alluding to Gore's recent separation with wife Tipper—which had absolutely nothing to do with his trip here.
Al Gore kindly responded by saying he is not open to discussing it.
With that, we left the venue and I proceeded to look for my husband and friends outside.
Funny enough, I walked right into Mich, Rajo and Ruffa Gutierrez who was gracious enough to say hello.

"Oh my! I didn't realize you were so small!" Ruffa said. As my sister Ana would say, "dksfkjshdfsjkldflk."
People started milling around her. In fairness she is very pretty and smells good.
We are friends. Thank you Ruffa!
Starvation, we left the venue.

Drove to Café Adriatico at Remedios Circle which has thankfully retained its Malate charm. This is where I used to eat on a college budget and I still love the food.

The goal was to eat the best chicken ala Kiev in town. Washed down with fresh mango juice, I easily gained two lbs. overnight but it was worth it.

Mission accomplished, we decided to walk around the circle to see what's up at Penguin Café.
![No more Penguin]()
Sadly it was no longer there, not even a shadow.
Right on Remedios Circle, I hugged Jeroen in disbelief that with the death and finality of Penguin Café, this era of Malate has finally ended.
Now only Café Adriatico remains behind. I hope they never renovate and never close down.
