I've known Robby Carmona, who directs fashion events, for more than a decade.
I've seen his work evolve from what started out as GMA Supershow/Busby Berkeley extravaganzas to the sleek, seamless, painless shows he does today.
Last night I was really happy Rajo Laurel didn't do another fashion show to launch his capsule collection for Plains & Prints. Instead we were walked through a series of installations depicting Laurel's design process.
Grace, Jay and I arrived with Tina Tagle around 7:15 just in time to catch the first tour of Rajo's event at Whitespace.
We were met at the door by videographer Jujiin Samonte dressed in such a normal outfit, I just had to take this picture.
Tina says, "Patingin nga ng mukha mo. How can I recognize you again?"
Me: "Tina guapo yan, tingan mo, o." (I'm lifting up the mask. Jujiin looks intimidated.)
Tina: "Oo nga noh, ang guapo." (Jujiin exits.)
Alex van Hagen was present and took some of these photos.
We were led to a door that opened up into a space with Joey Mead, our tour guide, wearing one of the pieces from the collection.
In the first room, Wee Will Doodle worked on a wall that had Rajo's drawings.
Joey invited guests to do the same.
Ana! Wish you were here!
Next we entered this purple room that had like Daniel Tan next to this pile that looked like a homeless person.
"Sino yan? Si Lotho?" I nudged Robby.
"Hindi. Dancer yan. May sakit yata si Lotho," Robby said.
The "dancer" got up and did this wild dance, while Joey talked about fabric.
Uh, nice shoes.
We were led to the largest room of all, which had an installation of models versus mannequins on a rotating platform (read: high tech).
Ria Bolivar was, of course, the main attraction
Then Rajo was introduced and came out to see his guests
When all of a sudden he realized Tina Tagle was in the room.
He stopped mid sentence to say, "Oh my God. I love YOU!" (laughter)
And I thought he was referring to ME, jeje.
Rajo invited everyone to get first dibs at the pop-up store they had set up in the corner of the room.
I was actually watching Tina shop when I spotted freaking Carmi Martin from behind a rack
Holy well preserved, Batman! I just had to stop her.
Also spotted: Paulo Castro
Jenny Dizon Hoshka
Jay Abalos
Lulu and Jes Tan Gan (Lulu, you're so chica!!)
Vince Uy
Daryl Chang
Tim Yap, Liza Ilarde, Marc Gueco
Connie and Salome
Candy Dizon (a.k.a. the one who made Pacquiao)
Rajo and Tina
