Please don't hate me for getting three iPads as gifts ever since it came out.
The one I chose to keep was the top of the line 64GB 3G model with wifi. However, I wasn't really happy with it because WIFI was always very slow, and the complimentary mini SIM I received was not only slow; it stopped working mysteriously after one month.
The iPad is now "owned" by the boys in the family who love their Angry Birds and Plants vs. Zombies.
Luckily I was gifted a MacBook Air 11 inch by my benefactor, which I really, really love.
But Christmas wasn't over. I'm still getting gifts up to now.
One of the most unexpected, pleasant things I got was the Samsung Galaxy Tab, which I didn't expect to like being a Mac diehard.
But as soon as I opened and got it working, I was in love.
• I love its compact size, only half of the iPad, and you can imagine, much lighter.
It fits in any bag of mine and won't cause any shoulder or back pain due to its light weight.
It fits in a small Dr. Ion pouch I had lying around in the house.
Dr. Ion pouches are available at Kinokuniya and Takashimaya in Singapore in many sizes.
So compact
• It uses a normal-size SIM card. I recommend you get a Globe SIM that has Supersurf so you can surf anywhere, anytime there's a Globe signal. And it's fast.
Friends who have used my Galaxy Tab are simply amazed how much faster it loads compared to the iPad.
You'll be amazed how fast YouTube loads.
• Unlike the iPad, It has a camera. You can take photos you can post directly to Twitter if you wish.
• Unlike the iPad, you can make voice calls.
• The downside can also be a plus. The games are on the low-tech side, so your kids won't be bugging you to play games on it.
• Pricewise, Galaxy Tab starts at PHP 33,000 compared to iPad prices below.
Having said all that, I can't leave home without the Galaxy Tab, whereas the iPad generally stays in the bedroom.
To me, iPad is really for people who like to read, play games, and surf online. While Galaxy Tab is more for the person on the go, who can't sit still at waiting rooms and traffic.
I'll take my Galaxy Tab before three iPads any day.
As for the MacBook Air, I still love it, cause it fits my bag and I can use that to update my blog, which I can't do on the other two.
Samsung Galaxy Tabs are available at Samsung concept stores at SM Megamall, Mall of Asia, SM Manila, SM Fairview, SM Taytay and SM Bacoor.
