I was hesitant at first to go to the new Aveda salon at Basement in Shangri-La mall, but it’s hard to say no to Catherine David who invited me to try.
Hair is my biggest concern. I was born with very fine curly hair that I need to blowdry to look human. Because of that I need to be extra gentle with hair products and treatments I use. (Read: high maintenance)
I met hairstylist Stefan Wilczynski who examined my hair and scalp and gave me a kind sermon about what was wrong with my hair. This guy knows a LOT. He is not scary and I really learned a lot—what to do, what not to do, and why my hair wasn’t growing.
On that day there were three other girls at the salon (or should I say “it” girls): Bianca Araneta, Hindy Tantoco, and Tessa Valdes—all of them with good hair. I swear, I felt like a square peg.
Stefan spoke to to Bianca Araneta before her treatment
Ugh. She looks good with wet hair
She gets a trim
Blowdry
Et voila
Hindy got a “sermon” too with some pampering before her treatment
What Stefan did was so amazing. I think he is a great colorist
Tessa came in later and checked out the Aveda range before getting shampooed
Yay for “minimal” Tessa!
As for me, I got a gentle treatment to color my white strands. The result wasn’t spectacular at first because my hair was extremely damaged. After a couple of weeks I went back for another treatment.
Stefan convinced me to switch to a shampoo without sulphate. I’ll have to admit Aveda hair products are not cheap but they are so worth it.
I got two sets—Color Conserve to keep the color in.
I use Color Conserve for a couple of days until it feels oily. Then I switch to Invati, which is the miracle product that helps your hair grow.
Invati—Sanskrit for invigorate—is Aveda’s most popular hair care line. It is a system of 97% naturally-derived products that promise to reduce hair loss by 33%. The Invati daily regime includes Exfoliating Shampoo, Thickening Conditioner and Scalp Revitalizer.
For my husband, I got this
I’m due for a third treatment soon and I can’t tell you how much I really love the two shampoos I’m using. No need for conditioner because my hair is too limp.
If you care for your hair and can afford it, I highly recommend Aveda hair products.
