Meet the artists: Soleil (L) and Tokwa, in front of their collaborative piece
Their watercolor paintings depict mermaids and water nymphs characterized by flowing locks, lithe bodies and innocent gazes.
Born and raised in an artistic environment, creating art comes out naturally to Tokwa Penaflorida.
Inspired by art nouveau and fashion illustrations, his works depict feelings of longing, lust, and sensuality.
At the age of 23, this graduate of the University of the Philippines College of Fine Arts has already published two childrenʼs books. You can view more of his work at http://tokwap.tumblr.com/.
Soleil’s fondness for drawing portraits of girls with innocent gazes and fabulous, flowy hair comes from her childhood fascination with mermaids.
She holds a Bachelorʼs Degree in Visual Communication from the College of Fine Arts in UP Diliman, where she focused on graphic design. Before venturing out on her own as a freelance illustrator, she worked as an art director for local magazines, refining her skills in graphic design and typography.
Having been featured in numerous local and international magazines and websites, Soleil continues to strive and explore the realm of fashion illustration and hopes to work and collaborate with fashion brands in the industry.
