Magkaribal had its pilot episode last night while I was multi-tasking, looking at press releases, tweeting, exercising, and fighting off the urge to drink Coke and eat potato chips all at the same time.
So I kind of missed the opening party scene which had Frederick Peralta on it.
Forgive me for not paying attention to the characters' names, so I'll refer to them using the actors' names.
Dimples Romana, a seamstress is married to James Blanco, who is leaving on a plane to work as an OFW in Milan.
They have two daughters and they live in a very strange rundown house occupied by many families.
James Blanco meets the not-so-fresh Alessandra de Rossi (Vera) who is supposed to be a model in Milan.
To prove to us they are in Milan, Vera speaks Italian, wears huge hoop earrings and looks like a prostitute.
Why a Filipina would work as a model in Milan baffles me when there are probably much better-looking models in Milan (no offence to Alex).
James Blanco decides to come home to the Philippines two years later during the tail end of his daughter's birthday party. Dimples gives him hell for not even writing her a letter during those years, he apologizes, she realizes he's still hott, and they have hot sex.
They next day Vera picks up James in the oldest BMW model known to man, so Dimples gets mad and dumps him for good.
One day Dimples and James' elder daughter (Gretchen as a child) chances upon her dad kissing a pregnant Vera. She confronts her father's mistress who avoids her.
The daughter goes home to her mom crying and freaking out.
Dimples and Vera have a confrontation on the road while Vera is driving her beat-up vehicle.
Dimples gets hit and run by another vehicle and dies. The daughters witness this and blame Vera for their mother's death and swear to seek revenge.
During the wake, Vera sends them a scary flower arrangement, so the elder daughter freaks out (she prefers Fiori di M).
The news reaches James Blanco, who now wants to claim his daughters, but they escape when the DSWD tries to fetch them as wards of the state.
The girls live on the street and eat junk. The younger girl gets sick and ends up in a scary state hospital.
The elder girl has no choice but to look for her dad out of desperation while her dad and his mistress are having a party in their mansion. The child freaks out on the mistress before she could ask money from her dad.
In order to pay the hospital bill, the child, who looks 12 years old, decides to try child prostitution when she spots some hookers getting tricks on the street.
But while her cherry's getting popped by some unknown DOM, a fire breaks out in the hospital, but no worries—her kid sister's getting kidnapped at the same time, so she won't die in the fire.
