Bit of trivia: I was in New York from 1991-1995, so half of the ’90s I wasn’t here
When I came back, I opened a little boutique called Grocery on Pilar Street in San Juan.
One of my interns was going out with a guy from a really cool band called Eraserheads.
The guy, pictured below in red, is wearing our popular Club Addict shirt.
This was how the Eraserheads looked when they visited the store one afternoon and I met its lead singer, Ely Buendia. Didn’t know much about him, but when Jessica Zafra and Danton Remoto interviewed me on the radio, I hesistantly said, “I’m not sure but I think he looks….cute?” When Jessica and Danton nodded, I heaved a sigh of relief.
Through the years Ely evolved from fat to thin after suffering from a couple of heart attacks.
At one point he even changed his name to Jesus “Dizzy” Ventura and now performs with his band Pupil. (Wiki)
Through the years his style has changed to homeboy next door to rocker to sleek.
In this month’s Esquire magazine, it’s hard to recognize Ely Buendia on the cover.
I’m just not feeling the pompadour and glossy look. And you?
Esquire’s Style Issue also features an exclusive interview with Grace Lee by Esquire’s web editor and Presidential nephew Jonty Cruz.
The controversial Grace candidly talks about her career, the Sound of Music, Korean Tourists, and her current relationship with incumbent President Noynoy Aquino.
The March issue of Esquire Philippines is available in newsstands and bookstores nationwide for Php 195.
All iPad users also get the Style Issue’s alternate cover of Ely Buendia.
