I think it’s amazing how Swatch has been coming out with so many cool collections one after the other, and just when you thought you’d seen the cutest Swatch, out comes another.
The latest collaboration between Swatch and Italian artist Lorenzo Petrantoni is something you can’t ignore if you’re a Swatch collector or graphic art fan.
Known for his black and white palette and complex array of illustrative patterns and motifs, Petrantoni achieves his style by cutting pictures from old books and reassembling them into a kind of contemporary patchwork.
Born in Genoa, in 1970, Lorenzo Petrantoni studied graphic design in Milan before embarking on a successful career as an art director in France. He later moved back to Italy where he now lives and works.
He has created numerous ad campaigns for Nike, Urban Outfitters, Burton Snowboards, among others.
His illustrations have been published in Time, Time Out New York, The New York Times, Business Week, Newsweek, Wall Street Journal, Los Angeles Times, Harvard Business Review, Chicago Magazine, Columbia Business School, Wired, GQ, Billboard Magazine, Sunday Magazine, Cigar Aficionado Magazine, La Repubblica, Sole 24 Ore, El Pais, The Globe, and more.
Five new Swatches by Petrantoni are the latest additions to Swatch’s Graphic Designers Collection, which has featured in the past: Keith Haring, Kiki Picasso, Alfred Hofkunst, Mimmo Rotella, Alesandro Mendini, Ivan Navarro and Jean-Michel Othoniel.
The new Petrantoni Swatches come in New Gent models and are titled Lucky Draw, Words, Reflecting Time, Hypnotic Eyes, and Time Trial.
